28 Challenge 2026

I'm raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

This February I am taking part in the 28 Challenge, and every pound I raise, will help train more life-changing hearing dogs for deaf people.

I will be walking 28 miles during the 28 days of February.  This is now even more of a challenge as I have recently celebrated my 80th birthday!!

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

It costs £25,000 to fully train a hearing dog, so by taking part in The 28 Challenge, I am helping to raise funds to train more dogs. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Thank you.

Post Challenge

Wednesday 4th Mar
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored me.  £1,260.00 is an amazing amount of money and there is another
£80 from Sally and Linda which inadvertently went straight to the charity instead on to my total which is actually now £1,344.00. Thank you all so much.  It will make a huge difference for the Charity.  We are looking forward to hearing what the grand total is on March 16th.

Day 28 - Final Day of Challenge

Saturday 28th Feb
Went for a walk with my daughter in law, Emma and Roxy her lovely German Shepherd in the beautiful gardens of Petworth Park.  The sun shone most of the time and by some miracle it did not rain!!  I completed my 28 miles and have received £1,212 in donations which is far more than I could of hoped for.  THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL DONORS.

Day 23

Tuesday 24th Feb
Today I went to the RHS gardens at Wisley with my daughter.  The weather was kind to us and we had a lovely walk of 2.7 miles in these beautiful gardens.  I now have walked a total of 25 miles. 3 more to go!!

Day 20

Friday 20th Feb
I have completed 20 miles now and exceeded my target of £1,000.  Thank you so much to everyone for their very generous donations, I can't believe I have raised so much money.  I am really pleased to be helping such an important charity for deaf people - the dogs make such a difference to their lives.  THANK YOU EVERYONE.

Day 13 of Challenge

Friday 13th Feb
Nearly half way through the challenge already and I am pleased to report that I am just over half way through the miles with 15 completed. Today I walked with my daughter on the lovely Knepp  Estate ( a rewilding project local to us).    There is a great 2.2 mile all weather track which enabled us to avoid the mud -  until the wild ponies had other ideas and chose to stand in the middle of the path!  It was worth the muddy boots just to see them.
I am even more pleased to say I have now exceeded my fundraising target.  Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me and moreover Hearing Dogs in the amazing work that they do.

Day 5 of challenge

Friday 6th Feb
Between the downpours I have now accumulated a total of 6.5 miles!  I have also been able to add a donation from our pub quiz team after winning The Wheel of Fortune jackpot at our local pub last night.   I am so delighted this has taken me over my original £500 target so I have upped the ante!!  Thank you so much for everyone's support and donations so far.  Looking forward to doing some more miles, and hopefully better weather, in the days to come.

Day 1 of Challenge

Sunday 1st Feb
Began Challenge with a very muddy walk up at Blackdown with my son and daughter in law.  We completed 3.3 miles and then went for a nice pub lunch.
