Ember, Ziva and I are raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Hiya.  We're taking part in The Great British Dog Walk. Every mile I walk, and every pound I raise, will help train more life-changing hearing dogs for deaf people.

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

My Updates

Team Ember is Rockin'

Wednesday 22nd Oct

Wow!

We have raised over £500 already, and still have more than a week to go.  Thank you so much for your generosity.

Ziva has started her ‘sound work’.  She will (eventually) learn to let someone know when a smoke detector, an alarm, a cooking timer, and/or the front doorbell goes.  We’ve started with the cooking timer.  She’s getting quite good at locating it.  Eventually we’ll add in nudging me when something goes off and ‘leading’ me whatever is making the noise.

Nine more days - if you know anyone who might donate, please share my page with them.

Halfway there

Wednesday 15th Oct
Today Ember went to the Outpatient department at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh with me.  She made friends with loads of very nice people.  Taking her places like that is all part of her training.  We did a nice walk on hosptial grounds before we went in, just to make sure there were no surprises during our visit...    I forgot to take a picture of her, so this is one from her first ever visit to the beach.  Little sandy nose.

One Week In

Wednesday 8th Oct
Welp, that's seven days in, a dog and a person has walked every day so far this month.  Ember has passed her Puppy Three Star test, that only leaves Four Star level to go before she's ready to go change someone's life.  Please help Hearing Dogs for Deaf People continue their good work by donating.  Thanks.

Let's Go

Wednesday 1st Oct
Ember is still away at the moment, so Ziva has volunteered to step into her paws and will be walking a mile with me today.  Puppy pic above for awww factor.
