Up at The O2 - Hearing Dogs Charity Climb

I am raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Every penny I raise will help more hearing dog puppies to be trained, so that one day they can transform a deaf person's life.

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

It costs £25,000 to fully train a hearing dog, so the challenge I am taking on is a great way to raise funds to train more dogs. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Thank you.

Getting Ready

Tuesday 10th Mar
I'm looking forward to Saturday - 4 days to go!  Thank you to everyone who's donated.  I've upped my fundraising total from £100 to £500, as I want to give the maximum to Hearing Dogs.  It costs £25,000 to train a dog and there isn't a day goes by I'm not grateful.

The difference Flame's made to my life?  I was embarrassed to say, but I was anxious most of the time.  Anxious about talking to people I met, (what if spoke and couldn't I hear them answer?) about travelling on public transport, about social occasions, work.

Becoming deaf is invisible.  I felt I looked as if I was coping, but I wasn't.

Flame's an amazing companion, who makes me laugh.  On our daily walks, people talk to me all the time. With her coat, she makes deafness visible, without my having to explain.  People smile at her (and sometimes me :D) all the time.

I love my new work as a lipreading teacher - Flame comes with me and sleeps through my classes.  Hopefully she's the only one! She comes with me to give talks.  In the photo we're at Hi Kent Social Group in Ashford after doing a talk for them.  We're always out, often with groups of others impacted by hearing loss.  I feel honoured to be able to use my experience to give something back.

I'm terrified of heights (vertigo!) so cheering me on helps as much as donations!  I can't believe some people climb the O2 for fun! I'm very much looking forward to the view though - hope we get a nice day.

Thank you so much :):):)
