The Great British Dog Walk brings together people across Great Britain to walk 70 miles throughout October, to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.  

You can walk solo, with friends, family, or your dog, anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales between 1st and 31st October. 

Every mile you walk and every pound you raise will make a real difference to people impacted by hearing loss across the UK. 

The Great British Dog Walk is open to all ages and abilities. You can walk or wheel your challenge. If you have any health concerns, we recommend checking with your doctor before getting started. 

How you complete the distance is entirely up to you. One day you might walk a mile around your local park, the next you could travel further to discover one of Great Britain's best dog-friendly routes.  

If walking with a dog we recommend no more than five miles at a time, depending on the age and fitness of your dog. Puppies and younger dogs may need shorter walks, and suitable distances will vary depending on breed. 

There is no set fundraising target for this challenge, we just encourage you to raise as much as you can.  

As the funds you raise increase, you’ll receive prize draw entries and rewards, including a reusable Great British Dog Walk water bottle when you reach £250.  
 

When you sign up, your fundraising page will be set up for you, and this page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your miles. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your walking challenge! 

Manually adding your miles 

You can manually add your walk distances to your fundraising page. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your miles. You don't need to buy a fitness tracker to take part. If you have a smartphone, it is very likely that you'll already have a free pedometer (walking tracker) pre-installed onto your device. For Android users look for an app called Google Fit (logo: a heart in red, blue, green and yellow). For Apple users, this app is called Health (logo: a white icon with a pink heart in the top-right corner). Both of these apps will track how many miles you've walked each day. Follow these steps to manually add your activity: 

• Log in to your fundraising page and select ‘My Fitness Activity’. 

• Under ‘Add activity’, enter the required fields - using miles to record your distance. 

• The logged activity will now appear on your fundraising page. 

If you track your walks with MapMyFitness or Garmin your miles will automatically be added to your tally. 

Follow these steps to track your miles automatically: 

• Log in to your fundraising page. 

• Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app. 

• Follow the prompts to connect your account. 

• Next time you head out for a walk, select start your workout in your fitness app. Once you end your walk, save your workout and your miles will be published to the tally on your page the following day. 

• During the sign up process you will be prompted to create or join a team. This is optional.
• If you are the first member of your team to sign up select the 'Create a team' button and follow instructions.
• Choose whether you would like your team to be private, or make it public for anyone to join. If you select private, members will be able to join through invitation only. 
• Once the team has been created, you can invite other team members to join. 

Create a team after you've signed up: 

• Log in to your fundraising page. You can do this by clicking on the 'home' symbol in the top right corner of the Great British Dog Walk homepage. 

• Once logged in, hover over your name in the top right corner and select 'Dashboard' from the drop down menu. 

• In your dashboard select the 'Create a team' tab. 

• Complete all the details for your team fundraising page and choose a fundraising target.   

• Choose whether you would like your team to be private, or make it public for anyone to join. If you select private, members will be able to join through invitation only.  

• Click the 'Create team' button at the bottom of the page. 
• You will then be able to invite others to join you.

Join a team during registration: 

• During the sign up process you will be prompted to create or join a team. This is optional.
• If someone you know has already created a team select the 'Join a team' button to search for the team name and follow instructions to join.

Join a team once signed up: 

• Go to the team's page you would like to join or ask for the page link to be sent directly to you from a member of the team or team captain. 

• Under the team name, if the team is public - there will be a button which says 'Join us', select this. 

• Or, you can join a private team by receiving an invitation from the team captain to your email. 

Prize Draw Terms and Conditions: 

Please read the terms and conditions below which apply to the Great British Dog Walk 2026 prize draw.  By taking part in the prize draw you are agreeing to comply with these terms and conditions.

You could win one of two £100 multi-shop vouchers.  

Participant entry:   

The prize draw is open to UK residents only, excluding employees of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.   

Prize Draw Terms and Conditions:   

The prize draw is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.   

Only entrants who are fully registered for the Great British Dog Walk 2026 via the sign-up form at https://events.hearingdogs.org.uk/event/greatbritishdogwalk26  and have received sponsorship donations via their fundraising page or the Hearing Dogs Great British Dog Walk donation webpage by 11.59 pm on Tuesday 10th November 2026 are eligible to take part in the prize draw. The same deadline applies to any entrants raising sponsorship using sponsor forms however they are required to pay in their sponsorship online via the link here.   

If sending sponsorship by post, it must arrive no later than Friday 6th November 2026 in order to be processed in time ahead of the prize draw sponsorship deadline of 11.59 pm on 10th November. Please follow the instructions on your sponsorship form regarding where to send your sponsorship monies. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People cannot accept responsibility for sponsorship that is lost, mislaid or delayed in the postal system or arrives after the stated sponsorship deadlines.   

Participants will receive one entry into the prize draw when their first sponsorship donation is received on their fundraising page. Additional prize draw entries can be earned through raising the following funds: 

Raise £25 or more - 1 extra entry into prize draw   

Raise £100 or more - 2 extra entries into prize draw   

Raise £250 or more – receive a reusable Great British Dog Walk water bottle, and 3 extra entries into the prize draw.  

Total entries that can be awarded are equal to seven if all fundraising milestones stated above are met. 

Individuals taking part as a member of a team, who have registered for the Great British Dog Walk as above, will qualify for the prize draw if they have individually raised the amounts stated or more on their own fundraising page. Team totals do not qualify for the fundraising rewards.

Fundraising donations should not be transferred between participants.   

The prize draw closes for entry at 11.59 pm on Tuesday 10th November 2026. Any donations received after this deadline will not be eligible for the prize draw.  

The two winners of the prize draw will be chosen using a randomised name generator.   

The result of the prize draw will be announced on the Great British Dog Walk Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/groups/gbdwhd on Wednesday 11th November 2026.   

The two winners will also be notified personally on 11th November 2026 via email to their email address supplied when they completed the Great British Dog Walk sign-up form.   

Should any of the winners not accept the prize by 5pm on Friday 13th November 2026, then their prize will be reallocated to the competition and a new winner will be drawn at random. The stated rules will apply to the new draw.   

Should any of the winners be an employee of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, their prize will be reallocated and a new winner will be drawn at random. The stated rules will apply to the new draw.   

The winners agree to share a UK-based email address with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to receive their prize.   

The prizes will be emailed by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People directly to the winners by Tuesday 24th November 2026. 

Prizes are non-transferable and there will be no cash replacement for prizes.   

The vouchers cannot be exchanged or refunded.  

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People will not accept responsibility if contact details provided are incomplete or inaccurate.   

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People will not accept responsibility for entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.

All participants of the Great British Dog Walk will receive details of the competition, including a link to the terms and conditions and how to take part, upon registering for the event to the email address supplied upon sign-up.   

All advertising will abide by the rules indicating clear ways to take part and including a link to the rules.
