Do Your Own Challenge

I am raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

On 4th July, I will be attempting to walk 52k (32-miles) across the hills and dales of the Peak District Ultra Challenge!

Every penny I raise will help more hearing dog puppies to be trained, so that one day they can transform a deaf persons life.

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

It costs £25,000 to fully train a hearing dog, so the Challenge I am taking on is a great way to raise funds to train more dogs. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Thank you.

Job done

Sunday 5th Jul
Morning all, just wanted to let you all know that I finished my ultra challenge yesterday in the Peak District and I am waiting for my time to be confirmed, I’m sure it’s not going to be as good as I had hoped but it was a gruelling day. We had a very windy start with showers in the late afternoon, very little real heat which was a blessing . Once Thankyou for your kind support.

Almost here

Tuesday 30th Jun
With just over 3 days to go till my timed ultra March I have stopped all training and giving my feet a chance to rest.Last week was a very good week and I managed to cover 70kms. Time now to buy some new socks and trim toe nails, I’ve also bought some poles to help me with my balance, but I would like to cover the distance without them, one last time. Once again thanks for all your support and I’m pleased to say you’ve donated over £1000 which was my target thanks all

Blisters

Tuesday 16th Jun
With only 18 days before the Peak District challenge I’m now in full challenge mode, last week I’d covered over 70 kms and it’s beginning to look much the same this week.
I’ve managed to find some minor hills to give my lungs a stiff workout and things are looking like a bit of a challenge.
I’ve been spending a fair bit of time trying to find help with regard to blisters which could be an issue, but I have got some quality socks and good trainers and I’ve been told to change my socks at least twice. I have been to Bakewell as my daughter lives in Sheffield, and it really is beautiful but challenging . Once again thanks to everyone who has sponsored me , I am so very grateful, but if you haven’t it would be great if you could spare the price of a coffee and help me reach £1000

It’s getting close

Early Days

Tuesday 19th May
Well last week was my first week of serious training and it didn’t take long for me to realise that I need to upgrade my footwear, especially my socks. I managed 51 kilometres last week before the blisters kicked in but hopefully problems with feet will be a thing of the past .
Although I have enjoyed walking for many a year since I retired, I have never been to the Peak District let alone walked it. So I decided as I reach my 70th year it was now or never to take on what I believe to be a real challenge, and maybe raise some money for Hearing dogs for deaf people. So to those of you who have so far encouraged me with your kind donations, I say thankyou and those who have not I say please please do, I will be very grateful

Thank you to my Sponsors
