Hearing Dogs and 40 Races before 40

Firstly, thank you for clicking that link, I told you it wasn’t spam. Secondly, yes, you read correctly I’m giving myself a bigger challenge of 40 races before 40 (it’s sooner than you think.) The next stops are Bath Half, Richmond Half, Brighton Marathon and of course taking on The London Marathon again! Over the next few years I’ll continue to raise vital funds for the wonderful Hearing Dogs.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is an amazing charity who train clever canines to help leave the loneliness and isolation behind for a deaf person. They are trained to alert their partner to different sounds such as doorbells, timers and smoke alarms and can assist them out on journeys and shopping trips. Simple tasks you might think but now imagine yourself in a completely silent world. You’re burning the dinner but you don’t know this till you see smoke. Someone is shouting you from another room. The parcel you ordered is being returned as you didn’t answer the door.

This was me back in January 2023 when one evening the rest of my hearing disappeared in a flash. I lost all confidence in an instant and became very isolated not wanting to leave the house anymore as I didn’t know what I might encounter in the outside world as the inside was hard enough.

A hearing dog can change all that. In their beautiful burgundy jacket (£30 would cover this by the way😉) they can accompany their partner wherever they may need to go. They are much more than sound support dogs they are a loving friend, emotional support and a fluffy companion help their partner to reconnect and embrace life. Every penny I raise will help more hearing dog puppies to be trained, so that one day they can transform a deaf persons life.

It costs £25,000 to fully train a hearing dog, so every challenge I take on is a great way to raise funds to train more dogs. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Deaf Run Club & Runnerbeans

Saturday 18th Apr
My run club (deaf run club) were invited to a taste and pace morning where two communities, one deaf one hearing came together for a social run. We had interpreters galore so nothing was missed. This is what inclusivity looks like. We had coffee, we ran, we had more coffee and shared a mutual love of running

London Marathon Photo Shoot

Sunday 5th Apr
Deaf Run Club were selected to be spotlighted by London Marathon photographer Simon Roberts. During sign language week we took to the London streets with Tower Bridge as our halfway marker to celebrate the anniversary of BSL becoming a legalised language and spotting the halfway marker of the London Marathon. 22 runners from Deaf Run Club will be taking on the marathon on April 26th!
