Fundraising for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
🐾 This October, I’m taking part in The Great British Dog Walk to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. 🐾
This is a cause that is particularly close to my heart because I’m half deaf myself. I know first-hand that living with hearing loss isn’t simply about not being able to hear everything. It can affect your confidence, independence and everyday life, and there are times when you can feel quite isolated from the world around you.
That’s why the work of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People means so much to me. ❤️
Hearing dogs are specially trained to alert deaf people to important and potentially life-saving sounds, including smoke alarms, alarm clocks, intruder alarms and even baby monitors. But they offer so much more than that. They provide companionship, reassurance, confidence and a greater sense of independence — something that can make a huge difference to someone’s life.
The average lifetime cost of a hearing dog is £70,000. This covers everything from breeding and training, to supporting applicants, placing the dog and providing ongoing support throughout their partnership, right through to retirement.
So this October, every mile I walk and every pound I raise will help Hearing Dogs continue giving deaf people the support, independence and companionship they deserve.
