The Great British Dog Walk 2026

Hearing dog Ambassador Pasha and I are hoping to walk 70 miles in October

This October, we are taking part in The Great British Dog Walk. Every mile we walk, and every pound we raise, will help Hearing Dogs for Deaf People provide practical support services for those with hearing loss and train more life-changing hearing dogs for people that need them.

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

The average lifetime cost of a hearing dog is £70,000. This includes breeding, training, applicant support, placement and ongoing partnership support, through to retirement and succession planning. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Thank you.

Sunday 4th Oct
Day 3 Walked total of 3.6 miles in glorious sunshine.
Photo  is of one of our favourite walks on the outskirts of Haxby. We also visited Beningbrough Hall later in the day  but it was very busy so we did not stay long.
Day4 Walked 2.9 miles round Haxby . Visited one of Pasha's favourite places the dog friendly  Cats Protection shop which has lovely  staff and customers not to mention super treats !

Day 2 Knaresborough

Friday 2nd Oct
Only 2.7 miles today although it felt a lot further . Probably because it is quite hilly away from the riverside paths . Enjoyed exploring areas of the town that are new to me. I think that by the end of October I will be a lot fitter than when we started this challenge. Got a second very brief ( every little helps ) and unexpected shout out on BBC Radio York breakfast show as I was driving across from York.

The first step

Thursday 1st Oct
This morning Pasha walked 3.25 miles round his home village of Haxby ,had a shout out from Georgie Spanswick  on BBC Radio York's breakfast show and received his first donation . Only  another 66.75 miles to go.
