On April 26th 2026 I will be running 26.2 miles at the London marathon for the very first time and in doing so will be supporting an incredible charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
The charity is very close to the hearts of my family, with my father-in-law supporting Hearings Dogs for Deaf People when he ran the London marathon in 2009 and 2010 in memory of his grandfather who was deaf.
The charity does amazing work for what is a hidden disability, providing support, love, care and most importantly safety for those whose lives would be endangered without the sense of hearing that we take for granted.
About the Charity
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a UK-based charity that trains specially selected dogs to support people who are deaf or have hearing loss. These amazing dogs are trained to alert their partners to important everyday sounds such as doorbells, smoke alarms, alarm clocks, and even their name being called.
Beyond sound alerts, Hearing Dogs provide constant companionship, emotional support, and confidence, helping their partners live more independent and fulfilling lives.
The charity receives no statutory funding for the training of hearing dogs, meaning it relies heavily on donations, fundraising, and the generosity of supporters to continue its life-changing work.
Training a Hearing Dog takes time, expertise, and significant resources. From breeding and training the dogs, to supporting partnerships throughout their lives, every stage depends on charitable funding.
By donating, you are helping to:
-
Train and place more Hearing Dogs with deaf people
-
Provide ongoing support for existing partnerships
-
Raise awareness of deafness and the challenges faced by the deaf community
Every donation, no matter the size, helps transform lives. Your support means more deaf people can gain independence, confidence, and companionship through a Hearing Dog.
Thank you for helping to make the world more accessible — one sound, one dog, and one life at a time. 💛
