TCS London Marathon 2027 - Team Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

I'm doing another Marathon..... this time for Hearing Dogs

So I am finally doing it..... the big one...... London! And on a year where for the first time there will be 2 days of running! I am running on the Sunday (also known as the best day) so it's time to dust off the trainers, purchase a running buggy so I can train with my new baby Isla and get cracking on the training!

For a special race I need a special cause and this one is very close to my heart! In 1999 my parents went to an open day by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and were moved by the stories they heard of the lives changed by this wonderful charity! So much so that they decided to start socializing Hearing Dog Puppies. These dogs are puppies who are in pretraining: they are taught obedience and manners, housetraining and basic recognition of sounds. For about 9 months they lived with us and became part of the family before leaving to hopefully pass their tests and train fully to be a qualified Hearing Dog! Over the years we had over 20 puppies live with us and many went off to become fully qualified dogs. Over the years I helped with training, many many dog walks and fundraising including a skydive and bungee jump in New Zealand! So it felt like the perfect charity to raise money for for London 2027

Every penny I raise will help more hearing dog puppies to be trained, so that one day they can transform a deaf persons life.

Hearing dogs are highly trained to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as the smoke alarm, alarm clocks and even intruder alarms and baby monitors. They also provide lots of love, companionship and emotional support, which is really important as many deaf people can feel lonely and isolated.

It costs £26,000 to fully train a hearing dog, so this challenge I am taking on is a great way to raise funds to train more dogs. Any donation, however large or small, will really help.

Thank you.

Training Events

Thursday 6th Aug
The training has begun and it turns out gaining nearly 4 stone makes it harder to run - who knew! Training runs have almost exclusively been at night after my baby daughter goes to sleep. Nothing like 8km of pain at 10pm at night!

To help with motivation I've signed up for some training races:

- Sauxony Shoreditch Half - 20th September
- Vitality 10k London - 27th September
-LDNX 10k Wembley - October 11th
- Run South London Half - 14th March
- Berlin Half Marathon (My First of the Super6) - 4th April

I may sign up to some more but most will be in/around London so I'm not missing a whole day away from my baby who obviously is the far greater priority!

Thank you to my Sponsors
