I am raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m 25 years old and was born profoundly Deaf.
When I was 9, I became one of the first children in the country to receive a Hearing Dog as part of the initial trial. My first dog, Sam, was a yellow Labrador and he completely changed my life. Before Sam, I often felt isolated in a hearing world. With him by my side, I felt secure at night, safer when out and about, and far less alone. He was my best friend and helped shape the woman I am today.
When Sam retired, he stayed with my family, and I was partnered with Douglas, my current Hearing Dog. Douglas is a black Labrador and very different in personality to Sam but one thing has never changed. He is my best friend, my comfort, and my security in a world I still sometimes struggle to navigate. I have recently moved into my first home, something I would not have had the confidence to do without Douglas by my side.
I have always tried to give back to Hearing Dogs because the charity has given me so much. In September 2025, I started running and decided to take on the Lincoln 10K April 2026 with my best friend Victoria, who is also Deaf and currently waiting for her Hearing Dog. We thought what better way to raise money than by challenging ourselves?
Now we’re taking it even further. In September 2026, we will be running the Great North Run for Hearing Dogs.
It costs £25,000 to fully train a Hearing Dog. Every single penny raised will help train more incredible puppies so they can one day transform another deaf person’s life - just like Sam and Douglas transformed mine.
Any donation, big or small, will truly make a difference.
Thank you so much for your support 🐕🦺🐶
