I am raising money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People 🐾
In 2027, I’ll be taking on the Great North Run to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.
My mum is profoundly deaf, so I’ve seen first-hand the difference a hearing dog can make. Her first hearing dog, Keyne, was not only an amazing hearing dog, he was my first pet dog too. Sadly, we lost Keyne, but the memories we have of him will always be incredibly special. My mum now has her second hearing dog, Summer, who we all absolutely adore.
Being deaf is a hidden disability, and there are so many everyday situations that can feel difficult, isolating or even frightening when you can’t hear the sounds that many of us take for granted. A hearing dog can provide much more than practical support. They can give their owner greater independence, reassurance, confidence and companionship.
For my mum, having a hearing dog has made a huge difference to her confidence and has helped her feel safer and more connected with the world around her. And for our family, these dogs become so much more than working dogs, they become part of the family.
That’s why I’m so proud to be running the Great North Run for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help this amazing charity train and support more hearing dogs and help transform the lives of people living with deafness.
